Da Nang tops Vietnam tourism competitiveness ranking

The ranking, released by the National Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) and the Private Economic Development Research Board, measured 15 tourist destinations across Vietnam based on 12 factors divided into four indices: enabling environment, policy of travel and tourism, infrastructure and natural and cultural resources. that enable the sustainable development of the travel and tourism sector.

Da Nang received an overall score of 4.7 points out of 7 and benefited from better transport infrastructure, environmental sustainability, tourism policies and a willingness to apply advanced information and communications.

However, the central city, home to long sandy beaches, remains constrained by environmentally friendly activities, natural resources and price competitiveness.

Quang Ninh, home to the famous Ha Long Bay, came second in the ranking, followed by Khanh Hoa, home to Nha Trang, and Quang Nam, famous for the UNESCO heritage site Hoi An.

Hanoi ranked sixth and Ho Chi Minh City eighth on the list. Vietnam’s two largest metropolises face more challenges in safety and security, quality of human resources, environmental sustainability and tourism infrastructure.

Tran Trong Kien, chairman of TAB, said the national tourism competitiveness ranking will help improve the status of Vietnamese tourism, entering the top 50 in the world in the next two to three years.

The country was ranked 63rd out of 140 economies in the 2019 Tourism Competitiveness Rankings, with a biennial report released by the World Economic Forum indicating that the industry was constrained by low labor productivity and preparedness to apply the advanced information and communication technologies.

In 2017, Vietnam was ranked 67th in the world.

Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Nguyen Van Hung said 15 localities selected for the ranking are home to Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations; therefore, through the ranking, the localities must find solutions to increase their attractiveness in the coming times.
